The 6AW8A is a high μ triode and a sharp cut-off pentode. The design use was as a sync separator and video amplifier. The electrically identical 8AW8A has an 8.4 Volt 0.45 Amp heater.
The data_sheet describes the 6AW8A thus: 'miniature type used in television receiver applications. The pentode unit is used as an IF amplifier, video amplifier, AGC amplifier or reactance valve. The triode unit is used in low-frequency oscillator, sync-separator, sync-clipper, and phase-splitter circuits'.
The base and connections to the triode. Note the flat cathode tube and copper grid supports.
The triode is full height. Inside the pentode can be seen the screen grid. There is no sign of a suppressor grid suggesting that the actual construction is as a beam tetrode.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter, and excluding the base pins is 60 mm tall.
