The V243A/2FS is a Heil Tube microwave oscillator for operation between 4.1 and 4.6 GHz.
This exhibit was made in England by STC for the American Parent ITT.
This oscillator tube was introduced primarily for use in the STC Miniature Radio Altimeter in which the tube operates, with a minimum power output of 750 mW, in a waveguide cavity designed for mechanical frequency modulation of ±50 MHz in the band 4.2 to 4.4 GHz. If, however, the V243A/2FS is mounted in the waveguide cavity 495-LVA-251, the frequency range can be increased to cover 4.1 to 4.6 GHz.
The tube is designed to withstand mechanical shock and vibration and to operate in ambient temperatures up to 100°C.
All Heil tubes are velocity modulated and operate with an external magnet.
The /F identifies the maker as Thorn-AEI, Brimsdown.
This exhibit also carries the UK service code of CV5463. The evacuation pip is on the side.
The heat dissipation sleeve.
The output probe and the large resonator disc.
The thin glass tube envelope is 19 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 65 mm tall.
