The CV1428 (commercially the EBC3) is a double diode triode. It would be used as detector and AGC detector as well as first audio amplifier stage in a superhet receiver. This exhibit is unused and the base contacts are still corrosion free after nearly 80 years. The base is of the eight side contact variety. These bases were greatly disliked by UK engineers as the valves did not stay properly in place and the contacts oxidized causing intermittent faults. Mullard released this valve in an IO based version as well as a result of this market pressure. This is the EBC33.
The reverse is red screening paint associated with Mullard. The classic envelope is 30 mm in diameter and, excluding the Ct8 base pins, is 87 mm tall.References: Data-sheet & 1043. |
