The CV2397 (commercially the DET29) is a dull emitter triode from M-OV. It is a specialist microwave co-axial power valve and would produce 1.5 Watts at 3.8 GHz, and gave useful output up to 5 GHz.
An unusual feature in this DET is that the heater connections, flying leads, are separate from the cathode cylinder.
The manufacture of this valve was special. The cathode tip was made a telescopic fit in the main cathode tube, and during assembly a fine threaded mandrel would be used, within the cathode, to push the tip towards the grid. When the capacitance reached the desired value the tip was then locked into position. Clearly labelling the DET29/cv2397 as high precision and not high volume.
The flat ended cone anode projects down to just above the grid.
The control grid is of frame construction with the wire under tension to maintain flatness. Once wound and sealed one side of the wire is removed.
The grid wires are so fine that they can not be resolved at this magnification.
This microscope image shows just how fine the grid wires actually are.
The flying heater leads are integral to the method of aligning the cathode.
The disc seal (glass) envelope is 12 mm in diameter and, excluding the flying leads is 61 mm tall.
