RadioShack (Realistic brand) vacuum tubes, popular from the 1960s-1980s, were rebranded NOS (New Old Stock) tubes sourced from major manufacturers, often lauded for quality and 'lifetime' warranties.
Historically, RadioShack offered a famous lifetime warranty, allowing customers to replace worn-out tubes for free at store locations, which was later changed to 'long-life' in the 1990s.
RadioShack, founded in 1921, was a premier American retailer of electronic parts, components originally to the amateur radio community. The business was bought by Tandy in 1962.
RadioShack reached its peak in 1999, when Tandy operated over 8,000 stores in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and under the Tandy name in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
In February 2015, after years of management crises, poor worker relations, diminished revenue, and 11 consecutive quarterly losses, RadioShack was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange and subsequently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
