The box is 76 mm square and 137 mm long. This box is of the early valve box type with a lift-off lid. Construction is printed paper over a paste board shell. To retain the valve it is wrapped in horse hair and set within a paste board liner that is interlocked to make a protected space with an air gap to the outer wall.
