The EF12 is a pentode designed for RF or IF amplification at HF or MF. Also the data-sheet gives details for its use as an AF amplifier.

The footless base pins are shaped to maintain grip within the base. The spigot covers the evacuation tube.
The wide metal tube envelope is 36 mm in diameter, and excluding the footless base pins is 35 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type EF12 was first introduced in 1939. See also 1939 adverts.
