The 1229 is a tetrode electrometer valve. It was designed for use in precision measuring instruments.
The label shows that this was used in a standards laboratory.
The Sylvania name on the base cap together with Made in USA.
The classic envelope is 37 mm in diameter and, excluding the UX4 base pins, is 100 mm tall.
