Extras ▼

The 5879 is a very low noise voltage amplifier pentode that is used in audio amplification. It is similar to the EF86.
RCA say that pins 2 and 6 should be connected to ground in all applications to shield the control grid and anode from any AC on the heater.
Ebbesen Davis wrote to say that the 5879 was used by Gibson in their GA-45T Maestro amplifier as a pre-amplifier. Bell and Howell used the 5879 in many of their 16 mm projector amplifiers. Trade name Filmosound.

The strap between the two halves of the anode. The suppressor grid is just visible.
The thin glass tube envelope is 21 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 49 mm tall.
