The ZM1000 is a cold cathode numerical indicator tube. Each numeral has a separate shaped cathode. A common anode is seen as an open mesh at the front of the envelope.
The short pins are arranged in a grid pattern as can be seen in the data-sheet.
The stack of wire cathodes behind the mesh anode.
Face view. When a segment is energised the red neon glow appears around the cathode wire and thus displays the numeral.
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 42 mm tall.
