The Philips C2 Barretter.
The Barretter is a current stabilising device used mainly within heater chains to remove fluctuations in mains voltage.
The Barretter is a positive temperature co-efficient resistor. It was formed by placing iron wire within a bulb containing hydrogen. The regulation is appropriate for a defined range of voltages.
In 1938 the barretter was explained in a Wireless World article.
