Brown, Boveri & Compagnie (BBC) was a Swiss group of electrical engineering companies. It was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1891 by Charles Eugene Lancelot Brown and Walter Boveri who worked at the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. In 1970 BBC took over the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. In 1988 it merged with ASEA to form ABB Group, a company producing DC Motors, AC motors, generators, turbines, transformers and the electrical equipment of locomotives. Some of BBC's technology went into German U-boats of World War II, such as the depth controls.

Brown Boveri started development work on electron tubes in 1937 and batch production followed four years later.Due to the firm's traditional association with heavy-current engineering, particular attention was devoted to the development of transmitting an d rectifier tubes of medium and large capacity. Receiving and other special tubes were, with certain exceptions, deliberately not developed. The PDF linked below gives details of modern high power valve construction.
