Lissen Ltd was founded in 1923 by Thomas Noah Cole. To begin with Lissen made radio components and kits for the home construction market.

Lissen was purchased by Ever Ready in 1928 and commenced valve manufacture in 1929.

It is believed that the initial Lissen branded valves were in fact re-badged old stock from BTH and Edison Swan. The small scale valve manufacture by Lissen was mainly for sale with the Lissen kits in the period 1930 to 1935.
