Elpico was new to us when we found a couple of valves from this company in a donated box of valves. The valve does not state the country of origin. Elpico made amplifiers and possibly the valves were branded for them by one of the major makers.
The box is well produced and on the end flap the price is in Shillings and so dating it to before 1971.
The original EZ81 from Mullard was the big brother to the EZ80 full wave rectifier, giving 150 mA against the 90 mA for the EZ80. This was specified in the late 1950s and 1960s when greater power was required.
The maximum reservoir capacitor was 50 µF and the minimum series resistance had to be 240 Ohms per anode.
The thin glass tube envelope is 19 mm in diameter, and excluding the B9A base pins, is 67 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet, 3002 & 1040. Type EZ81 was first introduced in 1954. See also 1954 adverts.
