Type 836 is an American high voltage half wave rectifier. The maximum peak inverse voltage on the anode is 5,000 Volts and the peak cathode current is 1,000 mA.
The earliest date reference is 1938 but the design probably is earlier.
The date on the base of this exhibit is May 1943.
The RCA logo.
The anode look to be 4 mm front to back and 28 mm wide.
The insulators are ceramic because of the high voltages encountered. One of the diagonal supports can be seen crossing the face of the anode. Above the top insulator is a straight wire connecting the two filaments together.
The lower insulator with the filament wires entering the anode spaces.
The top insulator and the anode connection to the top cap.
Here the filament bridge can be clearly seen. As the filament wires drop into the anode one can see the oxide coating.
The classic envelope is 60 mm in diameter and, excluding the UX4 base pins, is 147 mm tall.
