The VP4A is a variable μ screened pentode designed for mains radio receivers. The variable μ characteristic enables automatic gain control of RF and IF amplifiers in superhet receivers. The VP4A was made in both B5 and B7 base formats. Both base formats were issued in 1934. Our B5 base VP4A version has the early screw top cap. This exhibit has the later 'top hat' top cap and the shouldered or classic envelope shape. The classic envelope is 44 mm in diameter and, excluding the B7 base pins, is 119 mm tall.References: Data-sheet, 4024 & 1040. Type VP4A was first introduced in 1934. See also 1934 adverts. |
