The VR106 is a variable μ RF pentode supplied to the RAF before the CV system was introduced. The CV number for the VR106 is CV1106 and the commercial equivalent is the 9D2.
The 200 mA heater requirement indicates that this valve is suitable for series heater chain use.
The Air Ministry logo.
Looking up from the base. The multiple heater strands are in the centre.
The anode surrounds the whole valve and is of mesh construction. It looks as if it should be the electrostatic screen but inside one can see the three wire grids when looking up from the base.
Another example. The stores code is visible after the AM and on the bulb is etched a number 9.
The classic envelope is 38 mm in diameter, and excluding the B7 base pins is 96 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1043. Type VR106 was first introduced in 1934. See also 1934 adverts.
