The DW2 is a directly heated full wave rectifier rated to work with no more than a 16 μF reservoir capacitor.
The limited capacitor size reflects the maximum peak cathode current that the valve can safely deliver.
The construction features electrodes held in glass rods. Mica discs came later.
The twin sections. At the top can be seen the tension springs holding the filament in the lower hooks.
The identification is printed onto a circle of gold screening paint. The filament can be seen as an oxide coated ribbon.
This image shows the filament ribbon with some of the coating cracked and flaking off.
The envelope is 52 mm in diameter and, excluding the B4 base pins, is 107mm tall.
