The 12AU6 is an American design. Usage is RF or AF voltage amplification. The design is a sharp cut-off pentode with a high gm of 5.2 mA/V and low anode to control grid capacitance.
Through the holes in the anode the three wire grids can be observed. The suppressor grid has a very wide pitch.
The thin glass tube envelope is 17 mm in diameter, and excluding the B7G base pins is 48 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type 12AU6 was first introduced in 1947. See also 1947 adverts.
