EL2

Sensibly equivalent to:
CV1429

Extras ▼

The EL2 was still listed as a current design in the 1950s. This is somewhat surprising as the side contact base was not the most reliable contact system in practice. The operating parameters, except for the heater, are identical to the EL32, and both were designed for domestic radio and audio equipment.
This exhibit, branded as Dario and made in France, carries the MiniWatt branding as well. Miniwatt is normally found on Philips valves.
The pinch.
The top mica fitting into the envelope with a rectangular mica below that holds the electrodes.
The Ct8 base and under the envelope coating can be seen the anode with heat sinking side flange.
The classic envelope is 35 mm in diameter and, including the Ct8 base pins is 87 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet, 1040 & 1043. Type EL2 was first introduced in 1938. See also 1938 adverts.
