The 1B24 is a TR Cell or RF spark gap. Applied DC ionises the gas filling so that when RF in the range 8.49 to 9.6 GHz is applied the central gap is bridged very quickly. The device is used in a Radar set to protect the sensitive receiver from the powerful transmit pulse by shorting out the receiver input port.
This exhibit is new and in the original sealed packaging.
A closer view of the RF spark gap. The copper cylinder is 15 mm thick and would be fitted into waveguide.
The wide glass tube envelope is 28 mm in diameter, and including the base is 115 mm tall.
Reference: Data-sheet. Type 1B24 was first introduced in 1945. See also 1945 adverts.
