The CV1400 is a current stabiliser or Barretter based on the commercial C1C. For voltages between 100 and 200 Volts the current varies by only 30 mA. If a pure voltage source is connected across a Barretter the filament will be destroyed, it has to be in a current limited circuit.
The KB/D identifies this valve as being made to specification K1001 or K1006, the B denotes qualification by a UK authority and the D identifies the maker as Mullard Radio Valve Co., Mitcham.
The iron wire is coiled to allow maximum length in a small space. The envelope will have a hydrogen filling.
The wide glass tube envelope is 39 mm in diameter and, excluding the B4 base pins, is 113 mm tall.
