The ML8533 is a UHF planar triode especially designed as a pulse operated valve either as an oscillator or amplifier. Useful output was possible at frequencies up to 3 GHz. A special cathode construction was employed to allow for the very high working voltages of up to 8,000 Volts in pulse operation.
Physically it is identical to the 2C39 and it was designed to operate in the same area of the spectrum. The ceramic insulation allows for a higher anode temperature than a glass seal of the same valve size and a greater anode dissipation. All external metalwork is silver plated and we expect this valve to have been designed as a military specification device.
The planar envelope is 32 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 68 mm tall.
