The CV2966 is a television EHT rectifier and is rated in terms of peak inverse volts (PIV). The PIV for the CV2966 is 22,000 Volts. If fed from a sine wave the anode voltage would be limited to just under 8,000 Volts, but driven from the positive peaks of the line output transformer the rectified voltage can be about 17,000 volts. This is sufficient for a medium sized black and white TV. The maximum reservoir capacitor for use with this valve is 0.002 µF, normally the capacitance of the CRT itself is used as reservoir.
The EY86 is the commercial equivalent.
The anode is a cylinder closed at the top and firmly fixed to the top cap.
The lower shield prevents some escape of soft X-rays. The cathode is not visible from this angle the thick white insulation is covering one of the heater leads.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and excluding the B9A base pins the valve is 65 mm long.
