The 6S2/EY86 is a television EHT rectifier is rated in terms of peak inverse volts (PIV) and that is quoted at 22,000 Volts. If fed from a sine wave the anode voltage would be limited to just under 8,000 Volts, but driven from the positive peaks of the line output transformer the rectified voltage can be about 17,000 volts and pulse input was a design feature. This is sufficient for a medium sized black and white TV.
The maximum reservoir capacitor for use with this valve is 0.002 µF, normally the capacitance of the CRT itself is used as reservoir.
The anode connects to the top cap and the support also holds the getter holder. The getter appears as a slight milky coating at the top of the bulb. Probably the vacuum has deteriorated. The translucence of the gettering reveals that the getter holder is a ring channel and not a solid wire.
The anode bell and shield seen from the top.
The thin glass tube envelope is 21 mm in diameter, and excluding the B9A base pins, is 66 mm tall.
