The UBC81 small double diode triode was designed for signal demodulation and AGC detection in universal mains domestic equipment. This example clearly shows that it was made by Philips
The triode section would be used for a first stage of amplification after the detection process.
Looking through the screen, one can see the grid and the copper supports.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 55 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type UBC81 was first introduced in 1954. See also 1954 adverts.
