The 4043 is a UHF disc seal triode. The 4043 is a specially selected and aged 5876 made to HP specification and designed to produce 5 Watt output at 500 MHz.
This triode is physically small, coaxial and connections are brought out along the body of the valve so as to better locate the valve within a resonant cavity. The cathode connection is made via a spring clip that fits over the metal body. In this exhibit the heater connections have had wires soldered to them rather than use the special base. The central grid ring is 20 mm in diameter.
Thanks to Nick Gregory for sending the picture.
The thin metal tube envelope is 6.3 mm in diameter and, excluding the base pins, is 54 mm tall.
