The ECL85 is purpose designed for frame generation in television receivers. The triode provides the oscillator and the pentode is optimised for pulse output operation into the magnetic load of the scanning coils.
The triode on the right. On the pentode both inner grids are wound on copper rods but it is the screen grid that has the heat radiating fins on the top of the supports.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 70 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 3002. Type ECL85 was first introduced in 1961. See also 1961 adverts.
