The CV2279 is a wideband RF amplifier pentode with a dissipation of 2 Watts. Wideband amplifiers need a high gm figure and the CV2279 Z319 achieves this with a single stage of electron multiplication. It is a secondary emission pentode as is the EE50 and EFP60. Devices employing electron multiplication were considered to be noisier than other devices with similar gm figures. But these devices pre-dated the frame grid construction.
The prototypes for the Z319/CV2276 were the VX5038 and E2133.
The Emitron brand label.
Thanks to Roy Johnson for the information on these valves.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 47 mm tall.
