The VU120 is nominally equivalent to the SU2150A from Cossor. The UK Navy insisted on the 'real thing' from Cossor as design proved to be the best performing over time. Here we have a VU120 made in Canada by Westinghouse.
The final digit of the Type designation has been lost from the glass but the stores code remains. It reads 110E/297 whereas other rectifiers marked VU120 have a stores code of 10E/121.
Visually this rectifier matches the 2X2 but has a B4 base not the UX4 of the 2X2. The ratings of the VU120 and 2X2 are very close.
The maximum reservoir capacitor is 0.25 µF, and the minimum series resistance is 10 kOhms.
The Westinghouse lettering on the base cap.
The anode bell is fixed to the top cap and the cathode tube is held in the pinch by two supports. The heater can be seen to be heavily insulated.
The classic envelope is 45 mm in diameter at its widest and excluding the B4 base pins the valve is 110 mm high.
