The 6AU4GTA is a half wave rectifier designed for American receivers. The design purpose is as a damper diode with a conduction time of no more than 15% of the line cycle. In European terminology this is an efficiency diode.
The 19AU4GTA is identical but has a 600 mA heater for series connection. The 6AU4GT is basically similar but with a reduced current rating.
The valve has a hard glass foot containing the leads and an outer softer glass envelope. The all glass construction uses the same technique. The difference is that for octal based valves, only wires are required to pass through the foot as the connections are made to external pins. The B9A or Noval base could be made with fewer operations as no external cap or pins were required.
The anode is designed for a dissipation of 6 Watts.
The wide glass tube envelope is 29 mm in diameter, and excluding the IO base pins is 77 mm tall.
Reference: Data-sheet. Type 6AU4GTA was first introduced in 1955. See also 1955 adverts.
