The 6D4 is a triode thyratron. It was designed for normal relay duty or as a wideband noise source.
In this latter role the valve is connected as a diode with the grid strapped to the cathode and the valve is mounted in a magnetic field.
The side view does not reveal any detail as the anode is a continuous cylinder.
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter, and excluding the B7G base pins is 46 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type 6D4 was first introduced in 1944. See also 1944 adverts.
