This exhibit is a 6146A transmitting beam tetrode from General Electric. The 6146A is interchangeable with the 6146 and for mobile transmitters has an ability to function well at reduced heater voltage. The final version was the 6146B with a very wide range of acceptable heater voltages. This exhibit has original etched lettering showing the Type designation as 6146B together with the later over-printing of 6146A.
The anode end view, the carbonated surface and flange in the centre of the working face assist heat loss by radiation. The base is a standard IO but the skirt is wider as the envelope is wider than a IO receiving valve. The wide glass tube envelope is 38 mm in diameter and excluding the IO base pins, the valve is 80 mm.References: Data-sheet & 1040. |
