The 1AJ4 is an amplifier pentode for use in battery portable radio equipment, mainly domestic broadcast receivers. The 25 mA filament was introduced to improve battery life.
The 1AJ4 is a true pentode with three wire grids. The single strand coated filament runs centrally through the valve. The tension spring can be seen at the top of the valve.
The thin glass tube envelope is 18 mm in diameter and, excluding the B7G base pins, is 47 mm tall.
