The CV1485 is an S Band cavity magnetron with a peak pulse power of 400 kW. This exhibit has a serial number of 383.
As these magnetrons are essentially fixed frequency devices a series of Types was made to cover a range of frequencies: CV1483 3.592 GHz, CV1484 3.550 GHz, CV1485 3.510 GHz and CV1486 3.470 GHz. Apart from frequency of operation the series is electrically identical. All require to be mounted between the poles of a powerful magnet for their operation.
The prototype was E1373 the E series were GEC prototypes.
The magnetron screws into the output waveguide. The front to back or thickness of the central cylinder with radiating fins is 36 mm.
The heater and cathode connections are brazed onto the pins and are insulated with ceramic beads. The GEC logo is present on this side. The other side indicates the cathode pin.
The wide metal tube envelope is 75 mm in diameter, and including the pins is 190 mm tall.
