The CV3526 is the UK Government procurement designation for the EL85. The EL85 itself appears to be the little brother of the EL84 pentode. It is specified for single ended audio applications with a load resistance 9000Ω. This could be used in radio or television receivers it is also an RF amplifier up to 100 MHz.
This valve was supplied to the GPO and was, therefore, used in telephone repeaters. The low heater current and modest HT requirement makes it ideal for this application. It is possible to see the EL85 (CV3526) as a designed replacement for the older EL32 that the GPO used in large quantities.
The GPO batch sample lettering.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and excluding the B9A base pins the valve stands 59 mm high.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type CV3526 was first introduced in 1954. See also 1954 adverts.
