The CV5409 (commercially the 9D7) is a variable μ pentode. Brimar do not give a designated frequency range in their literature. As variable μ pentodes are used in AGC amplification systems, this suggests a role in IF amplification at 10.7 MHz for broadcast FM and up to 33 MHz for a TV IF strip.
The screening hides the internal structure but at the top the control grid supports can be seen as copper and the screen grid is bright metal. The third set of supports are very short.
The thin glass tube envelope is 21 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 48 mm tall.
