The VI77 is a magic eye tuning indicator. The prototype was the EM31. Other service names were AW6 and later CV1077.
VI would be an RAF designation and AW the Army designation.
The triode amplifier sits below the display unit.

The wide glass tube envelope is  mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is  mm tall.
