The CV2933 shown here is still in its original plastic bag. It is interesting that the valve itself is not labelled as a CV valve but is a plain 2C46 off of the American production line. In the USA such valves are called lighthouse valves because of their construction. The disc seal valves are used at UHF frequencies as grounded grid amplifiers. The grid disc is at the centre of the valve and below in the base is the cathode with a flat circular emitting surface placed very close to the grid. Above the grid the anode is also a flat cylinder spaced very close the the grid. It is taken to the top cap. In use the valve would be sealed in a resonant cavity. The disc seal envelope is 32 mm in diameter at the Bakelite base, 25 mm diameter at the skirt, 16 mm diameter at the first glass ring, 12 mm diameter at the top glass ring and 9 mm diameter at the top cap, and excluding the IO base pins, is 52 mm tall.References: Data-sheet & 3002. |
