The VT-287 (commercial 815) is a power double beam tetrode based on the American pattern of two separate valve sections. Operation can be as a push-pull modulator (Class AB2) or RF power amplifier. The 815 produces maximum power up to 125 MHz and at reduced ratings can operate to 175 MHz.
The construction with a single cathode connection is specifically for push-pull operation.
The twin sections and the RCA logo on the base cap.
The sections side by side with each anode taken to a top cap.
Here the bright beam plate can be seen at the base of the anode. Also visible are the copper control grid supports and the flattened cathode with rounded ends.
The anodes are connected to the top caps by ribbon. The dark screens mounted on the top mica connect to both cathodes and beam plates. The screen grids are also bridged above the top mica by a strip of vertically mounted ribbon.
The wide glass tube envelope is 51 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 97 mm tall.
