This PL83 was made in the UK by Mullard. It was designed as a sensitive video amplifier valve for television receivers.
The glass is not perfectly clear but the copper supports of the control grid can be seen.
This is a true pentode with three wire grids. The discolouration of the glass around the hole in the anode tells of a hard service life.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 67 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type PL83 was first introduced in 1951. See also 1951 adverts.
