The CV4048 is a small, special quality voltage stabiliser. The striking voltage is 115 Volts and the maintaining voltage is 85 Volts. For a tube current variation of 1 mA to 10 mA the voltage regulation is 4 Volts. The original commercial version is the 85A2 (CV449). The electrically identical M8142 (CV4054) has flying leads. This valve would have been used to directly stabilise the voltage for an oscillator or be employed as a voltage reference for a stabilised supply. In the latter case the tube would be operated at constant current. The positive identification came from the box it arrived in. There are fragments of blue print on the glass and the colour matches that used by STC.
Apart from the blue there is little else to see. At some angles the rod anode and cylindrical cathode can be glimpsed. The thin glass tube envelope is 17 mm in diameter and excluding the B7G base pins, is 45 mm tall.References: Data-sheet. Type CV4048 was first introduced in 1959. See also 1959 adverts. |
