This voltage stabiliser has a maximum current output of 75 mA. This is above the normal range and was therefore designed to supply a stabilised voltage directly rather than act as a reference in a stabiliser power supply with a series pass valve.
The striking voltage was 135 Volts. Pin 4 is a priming anode to strike the discharge.
The anode cylinder is made of thin bright metal that has four corrugations in its length for added rigidity. The anode is closed at the top and held in place in the dome of the envelope by the top mica support. The classic valve shape was designed to allow the top of the valve to grip the mica support for rigidity and still allow the main part of the envelope to be a significant distance from the anode.
The base is brown composition and this normally indicates a greater resistance to moisture than the black Bakelite bases.
The KB/K identifies this valve as being made to specification K1001 or K1006, the B denotes qualification by a UK authority and the K identifies the maker as ETEL, Electronic Tubes, High Wycombe.
See also CV45 for a version with a balloon envelope and no mica top support.
The classic envelope is 45 mm in diameter, and excluding the base pins is 102 mm tall.
