The 30P4 from Mazda is a purpose designed line output valve. It was designed to deliver current pulses to the magnetic deflection coils wherein a linear rising magnetic field would be generated to drive the spot across the face of the tube.
Inside the anode can be seen the bright beam confining plates and the inner aligned wire grids. The screen grid is made substantial as it has to dissipate considerable heat. The control grid is very close to the cathode. For both grids the winding process allows for them to pass across the face of the cathode parallel with it. That is flat across the width of the cathode. The wide glass tube envelope is 29 mm in diameter, and excluding the IO base pins is 89 mm tall.References: Data-sheet & 1040 Type 30P4 was first introduced in 1956. See also 1956 adverts. |
