The NR64 naval receiver valve is a variable μ amplifier beam tetrode. This suggests use as RF or IF stages in an AGC controlled superhet receiver. The control grid connected to the top cap reinforces this view.
The reverse carries the M-OV etched lozenge with the Type designation KTW61 within. Thus NR64 is directly equivalent to the KTW61. The beam tetrode suppresses secondary emission from the anode and circumvents the Philips-Mullard patents for the pentode.
The classic envelope is 38 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 104 mm tall.
