The active area is a small diameter cylinder and so the front to back dimension is much smaller than side to side where the extra metal acts as a heat radiator.
The central coated cathode has the anodes mounted vertically. The heater is a double helix.
The classic envelope is 38 mm in diameter, and excluding the IO base pins is 88 mm tall.
