The PL84 audio output pentode was designed for use in television receivers. Like the UL84 with a 100 mA heater it is a low voltage high current version of the EL84, itself a standard in design.
The discoloured envelope indicates that this exhibit has had a hard life.
The remains of the GEC logo and Made in Britain underneath.
The thin glass tube envelope is 20 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9A base pins, is 69 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet & 1040. Type PL84 was first introduced in 1956. See also 1956 adverts.
