The CV1948 is the post 1941 UK government specification for the 6L6.
We believe that when RCA introduced the 6L6 around 1935 it was the World's first true aligned-grid beam tetrode to reach Quantity Production. The metal envelope version was the original followed later by the glass enveloped G and GT versions.
A pair working in class AB2 push pull would deliver 47 Watts at 2% distortion. A lot of power in the 1940s and 1950s.
The /J identifies the maker as STC, Crewkerne, pre Jan 1946.
The reverse is plain painted steel.
The octal base. The wires coming from the hard glass disc are fed through the pins and soldered.
The wide metal tube envelope is 32 mm in diameter and excluding the IO base pins, is 93 mm tall.
