The 6SB7Y is a heptode designed as a self oscillating mixer for VHF FM radio reception. The heptode is known in America as a Pentagrid converter.
The 6SB7Y was a development of the 1938 6SA7 - also a metal can valve. The valve that replaced the 6SB7Y was an all glass type, the 6BA7.

The thin metal tube envelope is 25 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 50 mm tall.
