The CV2318 (commercially the A2272) is a high voltage rectifier for use in high ambient temperatures. It can also be used as an efficiency diode.
The KB/Z identifies this valve as being made to specification K1001 or K1006, the B denotes qualification by a UK authority and the Z identifies the maker as MO Valve Company, Hammersmith.
The GEC brand label. Note the large anode area and ceramic insulators. If the outside temperature is high, then the temperature differential is reduced and a greater radiating area is required to dissipate the heat generated internally.
The cylindrical anode with side fins.
Another view of the multiple radiating anode fins.
The B9G base and pins. The locating key on the spigot is required to correctly align the equi-spaced pins.
The wide glass envelope is 39 mm in diameter and, excluding the B9G base pins, is 96 mm tall.
References: Data-sheet. Type CV2318 was first introduced in 1955. See also 1955 adverts.
